Vanessa Sleeth

My name is Vanessa Sleeth. I have a background in teaching and leading wellbeing at Wanganui Park Secondary College. I am currently working as a school psychologist with a little bit of private practice on the side. I keep appointments available weekly for new clients to reduce wait times.

I feel privileged to do the work that I do, working collaboratively with clients to lead fulfilling, values-driven lives of meaning and purpose. I am passionate about supporting people to overcome challenges and reach personal and professional goals. My aim is to provide clients with a space to reflect, explore, to try new things, and learn about self and others, but primarily to feel heard, validated and understood without judgement.

I have much experience working with adolescents but work cross the lifespan in my private practice. My style is warm, intentional, empathic, empowering, gentle, non-judgemental and informal. I love to imbue my work with optimism, positivity, hope and a little bit of humour. The therapeutic relationship is fundamental to positive outcomes and I place great value on creating a strong connection, trust and rapport to enable clients to feel comfortable. I believe humour, playfulness and authenticity are powerful factors within the therapeutic relationship.

I bring experience in working with clients to improve/manage interpersonal relationships, workplace challenges, stress, burnout, self-care and proactive mental health, mood and anxiety disorders, addiction and substance use, trauma/attachment, grief and loss, disordered eating, hoarding, and perfectionism.

I endeavour to make others feel heard, validated and hopeful and tend to focus on strengths, values, solutions, self-compassion and fulfilment. I draw primarily on principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and positive psychology ensuring my work is tailored to individual needs, challenges and goals. My aim is to support clients to develop strategies to assist in managing painful and uncomfortable emotions, disengaging from unhelpful thoughts and beliefs about self and others, and reaffirming purpose and direction through connection with values.
